Wear AFSCME green for to show support for GDC rally

Posted Sep. 21, 2016 by

Our union brothers and sisters at the Gallipolis Developmental Center need as much support as they can get for the Thurs. Sept. 22 rally. They are standing up against yet another announced layoff that will decimate their already hurting Appalachian community and the developmentally disabled Ohioans they care for every day. This is the third GDC layoff in six years.

Show your support at tomorrow’s rally by wearing AFSCME green. Let’s make sure they know that their union family and community of supporters have their backs and will fight this layoff to the end. RSVP on Facebook

WHAT: GDC "Our Jobs, Our Town" Rally

WHEN: Tomorrow - Thursday, September 22 from 5-7:30 p.m.

WHERE: Gallipolis City Park

Now, in an obvious act of retaliation, the administration at the center has planned an event for the exact same day and time. They’re calling it an Autumn Equinox Celebration for the clients.

“It’s just an attempt to deter our members from participating in the rally,” said Staff Rep. Monty Blanton who retired from the center. “They can play games, but that won’t stop us.”

Speakers will include State Rep. Ryan Smith, county commissioners and other local elected officials, as well as parents and employees.

Food will be served. All Community members are welcome!
