Union activists remember Pickaway nurse lost to COVID-19

The unrelenting COVID crisis has, tragically, taken the life of another Corrections employee. Tina Reeves was a Licensed Practical Nurse at Pickaway Correctional Institution (PCI) and was much loved by her union brothers and sisters there. “I know she’ll be missed by a lot of people. She was so well liked,” said PCI Chapter President Kevin Burke.

OCSEA staff members Tim Shafer and Kevin Birchfield, who worked at PCI, also remembered Tina. “Tina was a wonderful lady. She enjoyed joking and laughing,” said Shafer, a union Operations Director and former CO at PCI.

“She used to tell me the Union starts off small on first shift and grows bigger when second shift comes in. She helped out where ever she could. She supported the Union and (as she called it) her chapter. This is just sad for her family, friends and of course the Corrections family,” he said.
