Los Angeles educators strike a deal

Striking Los Angeles educators and support staff headed back to school yesterday after reaching an historic contract agreement on Tuesday. The agreement makes progress in more than 20 different areas, says United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA), the union representing the second largest public school district in the nation. The contract, approved by a super-majority of members Tuesday night, includes a much-deserved pay raise, hard caps on class size, a clear pathway to cap charter schools, investments in nurses, librarians, counselors and more.

“Our strike showed the country just how much the public loves public schools and wants a reinvestment in education, not privatization,” said UTLA leaders. Read more...
