OCSEA, ODRC team up to recruit Correction Officers

Posted Apr. 24, 2019 by

In the first of its kind, OCSEA and the Ohio Dept. of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) have partnered on an initiative to recruit more Correction Officers. The joint venture will include a marketing campaign involving social media, radio, digital ads, flyers and other ways to get the word out about the need for Correction Officers.

The pilot partnership will focus on publicizing a hiring event on May 9 at the Madison & London Correctional Institution TEC. ODRC says they hope to speed up the hiring process by making on-the-spot, tentative offers on site at the event.

OCSEA is launching a Facebook campaign this week about the recruitment event, highlighting the union-negotiated benefits of the job like FREE COLLEGE, affordable health care and union wages.

A tightening labor market and low unemployment have made it increasingly difficult to recruit COs in some areas of the state.

“While we may have our differences with DRÇ on some things, I think we can all agree on the need for more COs in our prisons,” said OCSEA Pres. Chris Mabe.

The hiring event takes place on May 9 from 2-7 p.m. at the Madison & London Correctional Institution, TEC, 1580 St. Rt. 56 SW, in London, OH. Go here to check out OCSEA’s Facebook campaign. To check out how to apply, go to Correction Officer Special Hiring Event - London Ohio.
