Show your union pride and support with new PEOPLE hoodie

Posted Oct. 4, 2017 by

Politicians have a lot of control over the funds and policies surrounding the public sector work you do. And those politicians are funded by the multimillionaires with an interest in destroying your rights to join together and bargain for a better life. But we can't let them hit us below the belt. The only way for OCSEA members to be real contenders in the ring of public sector politics is to fight fire with fire! That's where PEOPLE, OCSEA's voluntary Political Action Committee (PAC), comes into to play.

Through voluntary payroll deduction to PEOPLE, members can have a real voice about electing politicians who actually support state work and the services you provide. Voluntary PEOPLE contributing is key to giving Ohio public sector union members a collective political voice and a strong union contract!

Sign up or increase your voluntary contribution to the MVP PEOPLE level of $4 or more and receive OCSEA's brand new incentive. The new OCSEA hoodie, introduced at the OCSEA Convention, is now available to ALL OCSEA members as a sign-up incentive. Don't miss out! The high-quality, embroidered hoodie is union-made in the U.S.A. and is only be around for a limited time. Find out more about PEOPLE at OCSEA.org/people or contact your Chapter union leadership today about signing up and showing your Union Pride with the new OCSEA hoodie.

Chapters to lead PEOPLE campaign, fight assault on unions

“We’ve seen the attacks in Iowa, Michigan, West Virginia, Kentucky and more against public employee union contracts and our freedom to bargain them. Imagine what each additional voluntary contribution could mean in the fight to stand up against and stop these attacks in their tracks…before Ohio is another victim of the working-class assault,” said OCSEA Governmental Affairs Committee chair Rocky Jolly. "Our chapters will lead this effort!"

As we face attacks on many sides that aim to dismantle union rights, OCSEA chapter leaders will work closely with their Staff Representatives to promote the new hoodie incentive and educate members about the importance of voluntary participation in PEOPLE.

Chapters will submit compiled and completed PEOPLE cards to OCSEA headquarters every two weeks. They can be mailed or delivered their Staff Representative. The campaign will go through the New Year.

The every two week deadlines are listed below:
October 12, 19 & 26
November 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30
December 7, 14, 21, & 28
January 4

Hoodie incentive orders will be mailed to the chapter president or PEOPLE Captain designee once they are filled. Staff Representatives can also pick up and deliver their own chapters sweatshirts if indicated by chapter leadership.

Please follow these instructions before cards are mailed or delivered to OCSEA:

  1. Use a current Chapter Data Sheet when signing up PEOPLE members. This will identify if they are currently giving and what level they are giving at.
  2. Fill out the card completely, including a member signature. Make sure that the correct amount is included.

TIP: If John Doe is currently donating $3.50 and wants to receive a sweatshirt, they must up their contribution to $7.50. This amount must be placed in the box marked OTHER. One common mistake is the amount being increased is either marked or written in the OTHER box. The whole total that is going to be deducted must be in that box, and in this example is $7.50.
