August Union Bulletin Board Network flyers available online

The August 2023 Union Bulletin Board Network (UBBN) fliers are here and available for download at OCSEA.org/UBBN. The virtual bulletin board gives OCSEA members access to union fliers with a click of a button. With some members continuing to telework, many working hybrid and others working 100% on site, the UBBN fliers give OCSEA members access to important union information. This includes OCSEA events, discounts and more.

Chapters are urged to place these fliers on their workplace bulletin boards, where applicable, and distribute at meetings. Any chapter that needs assistance with printing fliers should contact the OCSEA mailroom at 614-865-4733.

This month's virtual fliers include:

  • Coming Together to Give: Combined Charitable Campaign kicks off Aug. 22
  • Cedar Point Weekend Bundle
  • Kings Island discount ticket deal
  • Working Advantage August discount highlights
  • Ohio zoo deals

Help kick off the school year with success! Support OCSEA's School Supply Drive!

So many children and classrooms start off the first day of school without the school supplies they need. Supplies equal success! By having the school supplies they need to start the year off right, our children will see greater success in school and throughout their educational journey!

OCSEA is proud to be hosting it’s School Supply Drive once again. Due to the pandemic, it's been three years since the last school supplies drive. OCSEA will be collecting school supplies through August 31, 2023. This has been a very successful drive in years past, and we're excited, with YOUR assistance, to help supply school children and classrooms all throughout Central Ohio. Chapters and subordinate bodies are urged to participate in this drive that will help working families most of all!

Please email Angela Harrington to arrange a drop off or if you or your chapter have further questions about the drive. Additionally, monetary donations are accepted.

Download the flyer to share with your chapter and to see the list of suggested school supplies.

Donations are being accepted at OCSEA Headquarters located at 390 Worthington Rd, Suite A & B, Westerville, Oh 43082.

Additionally, there will also be drop off boxes at this year's OCSEA Biennial Convention at the Convention Center, August 24-26. Donation boxes will be located at the Labor Education and Union Benefits Trust (UBT) booths open during registration throughout convention.

Extended Early Voting hours continue this week, plus weekend voting

Do you prefer to vote early? This is the last Early Vote week for Ohio's August 8 Special Election. This week only, the scheduled hours to vote at your county's early voting location are extended from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM through Friday.

Additionally, this Saturday and Sunday is the ONE AND ONLY weekend of early voting permitted by the Ohio Secretary of State for this Special Election. Please take advantage of the weekend voting if you can. The Ohio SOS continues to limit early weekend voting, even though it is one of the best ways for busy, working Ohioans to exercise their democratic right to vote. PLEASE NOTE: The Ohio SOS is NOT permitting any early voting on Monday, August 7. After this weekend, you will have to vote on Election Day at your designated polling location.

We know the lines are long, but that's a good thing, especially when democratic rights are on the line. Please note, the lines go quickly. Please stay in line and vote, even if you are in line at closing.

EARLY IN-PERSON VOTING HOURS:

  • August 2-4: 7:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
  • August 5: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (weekend voting)
  • August 6: 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. (weekend voting)
  • No voting on MONDAY, August 7

Find Your Early Vote Location

Prefer to vote on Election Day? Before Tuesday, make sure you know your exact polling location. Locations can change, so make sure you know your exact location for this Special Election. The polls are open Tuesday, August 8 from 6:30 AM-7:30 PM.

Local chapter activists gather to build skills, grow union leadership

This past weekend, about 50 OCSEA leaders wrapped up a Leadership Training to build their skills as union leaders that they can take back to their chapters, where the real work gets done.

Leaders from every area of the state participated in workshops on local communications networks, emotional intelligence, financial affairs and constitutional knowledge. They also managed to have a lot of fun and build relationships with team building exercises. Shout out to all the leaders who participated this past weekend to make their union even stronger.

District 6 celebrates union families

District 6 leadership recently held a Family Fun Day at OCSEA HQ for all members of the Central Ohio District. Union members and their family were treated to a cook out, bouncy houses and games and prizes before they head back to school. It was the perfect way to celebrate union families and the end of summer! Shout out to District 6 leaders Rochelle Holcomb (District 6 VP), Mercedes Hare, Amy Turner, and Kelvin Jones (District 6 President) for making this event happen!
