Download the OCSEA Steward Conference agenda
The agenda for the June 3 Steward Conference is available for download on the OCSEA website: OCSEA.org/StewardConference. Click the agenda link at the top of the website for easy access to the tentative schedule of events.
The event, open to all members, will take place Saturday, June 3 at the Hilton Columbus/Polaris. There is still time to register for the conference HERE. You can attend in-person or virtually. (Please note, the in-person Steward Trainings are full. Please only register for the virtual trainings that will run concurrently.)
The event will include three important sessions that will help stewards and leaders grow their skills and better represent their members in the workplace. Arbitrator Richard Bales will offer two of those sessions. The first session will help stewards prepare for hearings, and the second session will discuss building burden of proof and preparing exhibits of evidence. Arbitrator Bales is a faculty member at Ohio Northern University Law School. He teaches a wide variety of labor/ employment and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) courses and serves on arbitrator panels throughout the U.S.
The third session will expand on the many generations within the workplace, the aging and changing workforce, and what the union leaders of tomorrow can do today to grow a union voice in the workplace for the workers of tomorrow. The session will be presented by Commissioners for the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, Joe Trejo and Joe Wilson. Commissioner Trejo serves the Cincinnati region, and Commissioner Wilson serves southwest and southeast Ohio. Both presenters are former union activists.
Remembering and honoring those who sacrificed it all
As we head into the long Memorial Day weekend, let us never forget those service men and women who paid the highest price of all to protect our freedoms and democracy. OCSEA President Chris Mabe and the OCSEA leaders urge all members to take a moment to remember and honor all noble men and women who sacrificed their lives in service. And we say thank you to every union veteran who has served their country. You are true heroes and the greatest public servants of all.
There are many ways to honor our fallen heroes this Memorial Day weekend and every day. Perhaps you have your own traditions to honor a family member or friend who made the ultimate sacrifice. But if you are looking for a way to show your respect, one way is to visit one of Ohio's many Gold Star Family Monuments throughout Ohio. Through the Woody Williams Foundation, the monuments honor, recognize, and serve Gold Star Families and the legacy of their loved ones who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. There is likely a monument near you.
