Save the Date! OCSEA Future of Work Conference will be held in October
|
The OCSEA Future of Work Committee will hold its first OCSEA Future of Conference on Saturday, October 17, with a reception being held the night before. The Future of Work Committee was created by the State Board to take on rapidly-changing technology in the workplace. For several years, OCSEA has made the future of work a top priority––making sure we fight to protect jobs and ensure that our members are prepared for an ever-evolving technology in public jobs.
Save the date now and plan to attend or send representatives from your chapter.

Some details to know:
- A Friday Night Reception will be held on October 16 at the OCSEA Union Hall, 390 Worthington Rd., Westerville OH 43082
- The main conference will take place on October 17 at Quest Conference Center, 9200 Worthington Rd Ste 400, Westerville, OH 43082 (located across the street from the Union Hall).
- A Conference Call letter is being mailed out to Chapter, District and Assembly Presidents with the conference details and registration information. Information will also be available on the OCSEA website soon.

Annual Team Up ODOT celebrates skills, innovation in transportation union members
|
Every year at Team Up ODOT, we are reminded about the innovation and skill that comes from our union brothers and sisters in transportation. This event is an opportunity for ODOT employees from across the state to exchange ideas on how to make their jobs safer and more efficient and celebrate the good work of public transportation employees. OCSEA has been a proud partner in the event for more than 25 years. See the union's Team Up photo gallery.
The statewide ODOT Directors Cup Roadeo, held in conjunction with the Team Up ODOT event, is more than just a fun test of abilities. These equipment contests in plow truck and loader show our communities how truly skilled our union brothers and sisters are at the work they do. We know the very best are taking care of our roadways and more! The trpohies for this year's event were provided by the OCSEA ODOT Assembly.

Working people across the country to celebrate Labor Day
|

At marches and rallies, picnics and parades, Labor Day is workers’ day. It’s a peaceful celebration of the power we hold when we stand together in a union—and the power that all of us have to take back our country for working people, not corporate CEOs or billionaires.
"Throughout our history, the labor movement has marched, fought and stood together to win every bit of progress: to end child labor and make dangerous jobs safer. We stand in solidarity for fair wages, affordable health care, and time off to spend with family, no matter where you come from or the color of your skin," said Ohio AFL-CIO President Tim Burga. "But in the labor movement, our work is never done. That is why we must show our solidarity after Labor Day to elect candidates like Dr. Amy Acton for governor and Sherrod Brown for US Senate that will stand up to the greed and corruption and work with us to bring costs down, invest in public education and end the cycle of corruption."
The labor movement and our allies are hosting nearly 1,000 Workers’ Labor Day events across the country to join together, speak out and fight back for what workers deserve.
Together, we’re all showing that working people are ready to fight for a better future. Whether in the streets or on the shop floor, in union halls or the halls of Congress, workers are standing up for the economy and the country we all deserve.

Cincinnati Labor Council's Labor Day Weekend Family Picnic Basket Celebration
|
The Cincinnati Labor Day Family Picnic is Saturday, Sept. 5 from Noon to 6 p.m. at Stricker's Grove! The labor council invites all union members and their families for a day of fun celebrating labor's hard work! The event location is 11490 Hamilton-Cleves Road, Hamilton, Ohio 45013. The very special event will include guest speaker, Former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, who will speak and introduce OCSEA-endorsed candidate for Ohio Governor Dr. Amy Acton.

The Greater Northwest Ohio Central Labor Council AFL-CIO Labor Day Parade is Monday, Sept. 7 in Toledo. Union members and their families can arrive starting at 8 a.m. AFSCME members are in Group 4 for unions. The parade steps off at 9 a.m. Updated Parade Route: The parade starts at Summit and Monroe streets, then goes up on Summit Street to Jackson St., Jackson Street to Huron Street and Huron Street to Monroe Street, where it will end.

Bill Cohen's Meaningful Celebration of Labor Day Concert

WHAT: Concert for a Meaningful Labor Day with Bill Cohen and friends
WHEN: Sunday Sept. 6 at 4 pm
WHERE: Columbus Mennonite Church, 35 Oakland Park Avenue 43214
There is free parking on the street and in lots near North Broadway Methodist Church
COST: A $20 donation per person is suggested at the door, but any and all contributions are welcome. The musicians and tech crew will split the proceeds with the Central Ohio Worker Center.

The AFL-CIO’s new 2026 Executive Paywatch report is here. Spoiler alert: CEOs are making even more than ever.
Top CEOs made 312 times what workers make, and took home an average of $22.8 million in 2025 in total compensation. American workers' share of U.S. national income has fallen to the lowest level since World War II, according to the Paywatch report.
The Cost of Living
- 8% of households experience food insecurity
- 16% of adults cannot pay all their bills in full
- 26% of adults skipped medical care due to cost
Housing Unaffordability
- 14% of homeowners struggle to pay their insurance premiums
- 23% of renters have fallen behind on their rent in the past year
- 49% of adults younger than 30 live with a parent
Income Insecurity
- 8% of adults use payday, pawn or other nontraditional loans
- 33% of adults do not have any retirement savings
- 37% of adults do not have enough cash to cover a $400 emergency expense
