If you’re an OCSEA member under either the state or a local contract or an OCSEA retiree, you are already receiving benefits from the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare. Under the ACA, all Americans, including OCSEA members and retirees, are entitled to the “Ten Essential Health Benefits.”

These benefits include coverage for pre-existing conditions, free preventative coverage for young adults to age 26, no cancellation or lifetime limits on care and caps on out-of-pocket expenses. The ACA also helps OCSEA retirees, who worked hard for their Medicare benefits.

Obamacare is also called the Affordable Care Act or the ACA, and it:

  1. Provides health insurance coverage to 30 million Americans
  2. Allows young adults to age 26 to stay on their family’s insurance
  3. Prevents insurance companies from denying coverage or dropping people for pre-existing conditions
  4. Provides caps on out-of-pocket expenses
  5. Eliminates lifetime limits
  6. Prevents gender discrimination and discrimination based on age
  7. Improves Medicare by helping close the donut hole on prescription drugs
  8. Makes wellness visits and preventative care free.
  9. Allows workers who work at least 30 hours per week to be eligible for full-time health care benefits through their employer
  10. Considers all major medical care, minimum essential coverage
