Getting to know your union!
Yes, we're in the middle of a pandemic. But that shouldn't stop you, as a newly-hired public employee from learning about YOUR union and benefits and opportunities afforded to you as a member of OCSEA!
Join us on Zoom for a virtual new member orientation!
The live webinars run EVERY week, alternating between Tuesdays at 6 p.m. and Thursdays at noon. New union employees only need to attend one orientation and can attend this one-hour session on work time.
- If you are already a member with a MyOCSEA account, you can access an RSVP link for the orientation HERE. Access the pull down menu to find a future date that works for you. Member sign-in required.
- Not a member yet and want to learn more? Contact the Member Resource Center (MRC) about attending an upcoming NEO. Email the MRC today to schedule a training.
- Need to sign an OCSEA membership card? Go HERE.
Typically, in non-pandemic times, most OCSEA new member orientations, or NEOs, are held at the worksites by local union leaders. However, in order to reach and educate new members who are not being offered a worksite union orientation or who are working virtually, OCSEA recently launched a new way of hosting NEOs, over Zoom. This is particularly helpful for new members who have not yet set foot in a physical workplace. The virtual NEO is also good for busy new members, with the union offering afternoon and evening trainings.
The NEOs are led by seasoned union activists. During the one-hour training, presenters go over how the union works, what the union does to protect members and fight for fair treatment and all the benefits of being a union member. The session will offer plenty of time for questions and discussion and will not last longer than an hour. Managers should permit participants to take part on work time.
Since the new virtual NEO via Zoom began late last year, the union has already introduced hundreds of new OCSEA members to the benefits of being union. The webinar is also open to anyone who wants to learn more about the benefits of being union or getting involved.
If you have any questions about the union, your membership or the new employee orientation, please contact our Member Resource Center at 888-OCSEA-11 or MRC@ocsea.org.
