A Conference Committee of state representatives and senators continue to hammer out the final details of the state budget, which expired on June 30 but was extended through July 17 to figure out a budget deal. This includes the future of a subsidy that helps fund future free college for union members through Eastern Gateway Community College.
At present, an amendment to Ohio’s state budget could decrease state funding for Eastern Gateway beginning July 1. While the college core program will remain for OCSEA members no matter what, the state subsidy was an important way for Eastern Gateway to grow and to add additional programs and services.
