Caution HEALTH CARE OPEN ENROLLMENT

Posted May 20, 2019 by

Today marks the first day of health care open enrollment. From May 20 to May 31, OCSEA members under the state contract can enroll or make changes to their health care and dental, vision and life insurance benefits.

This year, the state is offering a high deductible plan for the first time, in addition to the traditional plan. The union fought this option during the last round of bargaining, but a Fact Finder allowed for management to offer a voluntary high deductible plan in addition to the current, traditional plan. The union argued that high deductible plans shift more costs onto consumers and don’t effectively lower costs.

For all these reasons, and because the union did not agree with the plan and has no control over its implementation or plan design, the union does not recommend the high deductible plan.

If you like your health care the way it is, you will make NO changes to the plan.
