While the care of fragile individuals is the top priority for OCSEA members at Gallipolis Developmental Center, the loss of 150 jobs in a town the size of Gallipolis is splitting up families and ruining the community. GDC, once the largest state Developmental Center, is now the smallest, by far. The recent announcement to layoff more than 30 employees would mean the third layoff at that facility in six years.
If there’s no state budget issue, then why does the Kasich administration continue to downsize and push GDC residents into unsafe settings without the proper supports? Why does Gov. JOhn Kasich and the Dept. of Developmental Disabilities continue to eliminate good, public sector jobs in the part of the state where families are struggling the most to put food on the table?
Take a stand! Please come to the Sept. 22 rally to protest the loss of scarce southeastern Ohio jobs and yet another upheaval of the fragile individuals for whom OCSEA members provide care.
