Columbus-area OCSEA member Joe Wing was given the union’s 2005 Horizon Award for community service at this month's OCSEA Board of Directors meeting.
Each year, union members have the opportunity to nominate their co-employees or chapters to be recipients of the Horizon Award. Joe was nominated by Margaret Smith from the OCSEA's Central Ohio Chapter.
In nominating Wing, Smith cited his volunteer time to the union and his political involvement in Clinton Township activities. She also highlighted his efforts to promote unionism to the public.
Smith noted that, “[Joe] began taking out ads on the sports calendars for several area high schools as a first step in educating young people. He has [also] had bumper stickers printed/sold with the proceeds going to PEOPLE.”
Wing was chosen at the December 2005 OCSEA Board of Directors meeting. In honor of this award, OCSEA makes a $500 donation to a non-profit community charity organization of the winner’s choice.
