The Mansfield City Council put commonsense before politics last night by voting unanimously to stand up against Right to Work. The council resolution opposing the worker suppression, was passed by members of both parties that make up the council with a 50-50 split. Union members from AFSCME, AFL-CIO, UFCW, Central Ohio Building Trades, and LIUNA were all in attendance.
"RTW will not only weaken unions, but weaken all of Ohio's workers. This is simply a catch phrase to reduce our rights and keep our wages low, " said Dane Mapes, President of AFSCME Local 3088, who spoke on behalf of the resolution. "All the people in Mansfield and across Ohio want is a fair shot at making a decent living, and RTW is a step backwards."
