Columbus Clippers to honor Public service; purchase tickets now!
Kick off Public Service Awareness Week (May 1-7) with a night out with the Columbus Clippers celebrating Ohio's public employees. OCSEA members and their families and friends are invited to attend an exclusive discounted Columbus Clippers baseball weekend of events that celebrates public service! The Clippers' Public Service Weekend is April 29-May 1.
OCSEA and AFSCME negotiated an exclusive discount for members for all three games taking place that weekend during the celebration. Not only does this include exclusive game discounts but also additional promotions all weekend long! The Clippers will also be honoring specific public service employees throughout the weekend, including OCSEA members!

Public Employee raises awareness of Earth Day, recycling
Matthew Hittle, an Environmental Specialist 2 with the Ohio EPA, recently appeared on a spot on NBC4 in the Columbus television market as part of a "Public Service Spotlight" that will air each month on the station. The project is part of a campaign to bring more awareness to the important work AFSCME public employees do in Ohio.
Each month for the next six months a new AFSCME public employee from OCSEA, Ohio Council 8 and the Ohio Association of Public School Employees will be featured on the segment.
This month, OCSEA leader Matthew Hittle talked about the work he and other OCSEA members do as environmental stewards with Ohio EPA and how Earth Day is an important reminder for Ohioans to do their part in keeping our state clean and green.
One of those ways we can all participate in making our communities cleaner during "Go Green" April, according to Matthew, is by recycling. "Recycling is an important part of preventing pollution, saving energy and reducing the amount of waste we produce," said Matthew. "BUT it’s important to learn how to recycle properly," he said.
Matthew offered recycling tips like not placing recycling in plastic bags and removing liquids and food waste from items to recycle. He also encouraged people to volunteer with their local organizations or parks clean-up projects and to take public transportation when available.
