Take Action: Save Democracy! Save our rights!
OCSEA and all Ohio’s unions took to the streets 11 years ago to stop Senate Bill 5 that would have stripped away our union rights. That citizen-led veto initiative allowed us to go directly to voters to stop the damaging legislation in its tracks. Now Secretary of State Frank LaRose and other politicians are trying to make it virtually impossible for us to ever pass citizens-led ballot initiatives again! We can’t let them do that. Take action now and write Frank LaRose!
More than 150 Ohio organizations, including OCSEA, the Ohio Association of Professional Firefighters, SEIU 1199 and the Ohio Nurses Association, have signed a letter to oppose the measure, named House Joint Resolution 6 (HJR6), because it’s unfair, undemocratic and will silence the voices of everyday voters. The groups will hold a major event and press conference on Tuesday, December 13 in downtown Columbus. With enough pressure, we can end this attack on Ohio democracy once and for all.
The proposal would require citizen-led ballot initiatives pass by 60 percent not a simple majority of 50 +1 votes, which is the case now. Of course, this supermajority would not apply to LaRose and lawmakers. For them, a simple majority is enough. Why should their votes count more than ours? That’s hypocritical and a double standard.
That means lawmakers who pass bills would have more power than a regular voter would!
In America, in Ohio, 50 plus one is the majority!
This is unfair, undemocratic and unpopular and we can't let LaRose try to hose workers again.

Frank LaRose wants to make your vote count for less with his anti-voter scheme. LaRose believes in one standard for me and another standard for thee.

The right to pass these initiatives has been in the Ohio Constitution since 1912. This is a solution looking for a problem that doesn’t exist.
HJR 6, if passed, would be on the ballot likely next year. Please help us by writing a letter TODAY.
