State budget moves quickly through Ohio Senate

Posted Jun. 20, 2017 by

The Ohio Senate Omnibus bill was introduced this week and voted out of committee last night. It’s expected the budget bill will be hurried along to a floor vote.

One budget development that OCSEA has been watching closely involves the sale of DR&C farmland. A House provision would have allowed for the sale without competitive bid, but pressure by OCSEA amid negative press reports had lawmakers back-peddling on the proposal. Now it appears the Senate has put part of the language back in, at least allowing the coveted farmland around Warren and Lebanon Correctional Institutions near a casino to be sold without a sealed bid process.

The House and the Senate must have a bill to the governor’s desk by June 30.
