The White House’s federal budget plan, released last night, would provide huge tax cuts to rich people like Pres. Donald Trump and corporations and slash funding for many of the programs that are provided by OCSEA members and that millions of lower- and middle-class Americans depend on every day.
The plan, which Congress must act on, includes an $800 billion cut to Medicaid as well as steep reductions in spending on education, health care, meal-assistance programs for children and senior citizens, infrastructure, transportation, housing and Social Security. This will have serious implications for OCSEA members like Terrance Hill, featured in OCSEA's latest Public Employee Quarterly. Hill relies on this funding to help provide vital services to Ohioans in need of food assistance. Agencies like ODJFS, DODD, Mental Health and the Ohio Veterans Home are largely funded through Medicaid dollars and could also experience drastic cuts.
