Combined Charitable Campaign kicks off August 20

The Combined Charitable Campaign (CCC) will run from August 20 through October 18 this year, and all OCSEA members are encouraged to participate as a way to give back to their communities and to important charities that make Ohio strong. This year's theme is "Coming Together to Give."

The CCC is an annual initiative that encourages State of Ohio employees to donate to one or more of 1,100 local, regional, and international charitable organizations. CCC consolidates many charitable campaigns into one, asking State of Ohio employees to voluntarily donate through payroll deductions or a one-time gift. Get the CCC Resource Guide HERE.

The CCC has been a joint union and state campaign for 35 years.

“Through individual gifts, either by payroll deduction or one-time payment, we have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of those around us,” says OCSEA President Chris Mabe. Since 1989, the CCC has been a shining example of the power of partnership between labor and management in the State of Ohio, says Mabe. "Each year, we are reminded of the incredible generosity and compassion of our fellow State of Ohio employees," he says. Look for a video promoting the campaign coming soon at the campaign's website.

Union podcasts talks about union-made Olympic uniforms, made-in-America flags

All eyes are on the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, but did you know that the United States uniforms worn during the open ceremonies are actually union manufactured in America? In a recent America's Work Force Union Podcast, the President of the Alliance for American Manufacturing discussed the American-made, union-made clothes worn by America's elite Olympic athletes. AAM President Scott Paul "discussed the Ralph Lauren-designed uniforms, which used materials sourced in Colorado and manufactured in New York by Ferrara Manufacturing, a family-owned, union-represented clothing company."

Paul additionally expressed concerns about the use of American flags, including during the opening ceremonies, that are made outside of the the USA. "Paul discussed the loopholes in legislation that allowed flags with 50 percent of the production to be done outside of America and still flown and purchased by federal offices," according to the podcast's blog. Paul talked about the importance of the bipartisan All-American Flag Act, passed by both the Senate and House ad signed into law yesterday. The proposal was introduced by U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown [OH] and would require the Government to buy flags that have been completely manufactured in the United States.

AFSCME Convention to be held Aug. 12-16

The 46th Annual AFSCME Convention general session will kick off August 12 and will run through August 16. OCSEA delegates will be in attendance to attend to the business of the international union, including developing goals and voting on resolutions and changes to the international union constitution.

Every two years, AFSCME members come together to conduct the business of our mother union, to set priorities for the future, to renew union commitment to public union work––and to each other as union members.

The convention's theme is Front Line & Fearless and will focus on building the mood across the union as one of pride, promise and optimism. Public employee union members do not give up or give in. We show unprecedented courage to serve our communities even under the most adverse conditions imaginable. We continue to strengthen our union through day-in, day-out engagement with both members and potential members.

Looks for updates in the newsletter, on the OCSEA website and through social media.
