A letter confirming State of Ohio benefits and covered dependents for all medical, dental and vision for July 1, 2017- June 30, 2018 will be arriving at employees’ homes as soon as June 9. Changes can be made, of course, throughout the benefits year if an employee has a qualifying event. Medical benefits are managed through the Ohio Dept. of Administrative Services, and dental and vision benefits are provided to union members at no cost by the Union Benefits Trust.
Upon receiving the benefits confirmation, if an employee finds that his or her benefit choices are incorrect or if dependents are missing, updates can be made through 5 p.m. on July 31, 2017.
If an employee misses the deadlines detailed in the confirmation letter, they will have to wait until the next open enrollment period in May 2018 to update coverages and/or dependents for the next benefits year starting in July 2018. This does not pertain to qualifying events.
