Saunders urges member action on health care

Posted Jul. 25, 2017 by

AFSCME President Lee Saunders issued a statement on the U.S. Senate vote to advance debate on repealing the Affordable Care Act.

“The U.S. Senate has just moved one step closer to taking insurance away from tens of millions of people and gutting Medicaid, dealing a devastating blow to working families," he said. Saunders, who leads the 1.6 million member AFSCME public employee union, said there is power in numbers on this issue, however. “This is not the end. With unrelenting grassroots pressure, we can still stop repeal-and-replace–and preserve a health care system that empowers and protects working people.

He encourages AFSCME members, especially those with customers and family members who will be impacted, to contact Ohio Sen. Rob Portman at 888-981-9704. Urge him to fix the ACA, not repeal it with no replacement.
