Take Action! HB 51 Sunset Review Bill to be voted out of committee tomorrow

Posted May 14, 2017 by

Tomorrow morning, the Ohio House State and Local Government Committee members will vote on whether to move forward with House Bill 51, the House of Representative's version of sunsetting legislation.

House Bill 51 gives a small committee of state legislators the ability to eliminate or "sunset" entire State of Ohio agencies if they aren’t up to their standards of effectiveness and efficiency. This bill would allow legislators to erode agencies they don't like by simple inaction, like not approving funding for agencies. This could wipe out entire agencies and would have a drastic impact on OCSEA members and the customers they serve.

The fourth and final hearing on the bill is tomorrow at 10 a.m.. The Committee will vote on whether to send it on to the full House or not. OCSEA activists are encouraged to call the Republican members on the Committee and urge them to vote No! Tell them House Bill 51 puts the future of state agencies at risk and is redundant, unnecessary and could cause chaos to taxpayers who depend on state services.
