Dental legislation is back and could hurt every Ohioan
The Ohio Senate Insurance Committees has pushed through an unnecessary dental bill that would impact EVERY Ohioan with dental insurance, including OCSEA members.
The Senate Committee held a hearing on Ohio Senate Bill 115 on Wednesday, Sept. 27 and voted to move the bill out of committee. The Ohio House Insurance Committee's version of the bill is House Bill 160, and, to date, the Committee has held two hearings. We need OCSEA members to take action to stop these bills from moving to the full General Assembly!
OCSEA members, as well as any Ohioans they know with dental insurance, are urged to write members of both the Senate and House Insurance Committees today and tell them to stop these costly regulation attempts once and for all.
OCSEA and the dental benefits administrator for most state employees––the Union Benefits Trust (UBT)––continues to adamantly oppose this legislation, and any others like it. That's because it prevents dental insurance providers, like Delta Dental, from negotiating lower fees for non-covered services for their members. Proposed Ohio SB 115 and HB 160, if passed, would give dentists the ability to charge members more money for non-covered services. While this directly impacts OCSEA members who utilize the Union Benefits Trust, EVERY Ohioan with dental insurance would feel the financial strain that would come with this dangerous overreach. The annual OCSEA Veterans Committee Conference will take place at the Mohican State Park Lodge. The Veterans Committee will hold a reception Friday evening, Nov. 3. The main program will be held throughout the day on Saturday, Nov. 4. All members are invited to OCSEA's celebration of its member veterans and all veterans, past and present. Bargaining To Do! Update your contact information!
Don't miss a thing! As we head into bargaining of the state contract over the next few months, one of the most important things you can do as a union member is to make sure your personal contact information is up to date.
This includes the following:
- Making sure you have an up-to-date PERSONAL email on file with the union. Personal emails, as opposed to state emails, are important because the union bargaining team will NOT be sending any bargaining news updates to state email addresses. If you have a state email on file with the union, please add a personal email TOO, as you will only receive bargaining emails at your personal email address. Union bargaining news is for members' eyes ONLY and should never be opened or shared on state-provided computers or email browsers.
- Updating your mobile phone on file. If you would like to receive text alerts about bargaining and other union news, make sure that you indicate that you would like to receive text alerts in your union file.
- Double checking your home address. If the Bargaining Team needs to send out snail mail regarding bargaining, including information on contract road shows, the tentative agreement and more, it's important to have a correct home mailing address on file. It also ensures that you always receive the union magazine and annually-mailed membership card.
